Two Ontario Hockey League grads have joined Rogle BK in Sweden’s Allsvenskan. Mike Vernace has signed after spending 2013-14 with Adler Mannheim of Germany’s DEL. Andre Deveaux starts his 2014-15 season in Sweden after spending 2013-14 in the KHL with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. Both come to this second level Swedish league with some NHL experience.

Vernace played three years in the OHL between 2003-04 and 2005-06 with the Brampton Battalion. At the 2002 OHL Priority Selection, Mike was taken by Brampton in the ninth round, 163rd overall. His first action with the Battalion did not come until 2003-04. Even then, he appeared in just two regular season games and eleven playoff games. Yet, the San Jose Sharks saw something in Vernace and took him in the seventh round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, 201st overall.
After just those two games in his first year, Vernace played in every game for the Battalion over the next two seasons. In 2005-06, his 62 assists led all OHL defensemen.
Since 2006-07, Mike has played in the AHL, CHL, NHL and DEL. He played 22 games in the National Hockey League between 2008-09 and 2010-11 with the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning. In 2013-14, Vernace played for Adler Mannheim in Germany’s Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
Deveaux played two years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2000-01 to 2003-04 with the Belleville Bulls and Owen Sound Attack. The Bulls took him in the first round of the 2000 OHL Priority Selection, 17th overall. Andre was a deadline deal to the Attack in 2002-03.
The Montreal Canadiens selected Deveaux in the sixth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, 182nd overall. Since 2004-05, Andre has played in the AHL, ECHL, NHL and KHL. His NHL experience to date consists of 31 games played between 2008-09 and 2011-12 with the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers. He was a Calder Cup champion in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves in 2007-08.
Deveaux spent 2013-14 in the KHL with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.
Full name Rogle Bandyklubb. The Rogle hockey club was founded in 1932. More recently, the team was promoted to the SHL for the 2012-13 season, only to be relegated back to the Allsvenskan for 2013-14. Rogle plays home games at the Lindab Arena in Angelholm Sweden, a 5,150 seat venue that opened in 2008.
Angelholm is a city of 40,000 located in the far south of Sweden. The city is 86 km from Malmo, the host for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. By road, Angelholm is just 125 km from Copenhagen, Denmark while it is around 550 km from Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
