ECHL PIM Leaders by Year

The ECHL began play for the 1988-89 season. In the wild days of the mid-1990’s, three different players sat out over 500 minutes in the sin bin (two were in one season). The ECHL single season record is 512 PIM set by Rob McCaig of the Louisiana IceGators in 1995-96. The league has collectively calmed down since with the 2010-11 leader, Garet Hunt, sitting out less than half of McCaig’s record total. Hunt led again in 2012-13 with the lowest PIM ever to lead the league at 235.
