Back to School Mondays: Laurier Golden Hawks

laurier golden hawks oua cis hockey logoThe Laurier Golden Hawks are currently in second place in the OUA’s tough Western Conference, wedged between the Western Mustangs and the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The team has twelve players on the roster who are Ontario Hockey League grads. The team’s head coach and one of the assistants are also products of the OHL.

Thomas Middup – Thomas played two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, 2007-08 and 2008-09, splitting his time between the Kingston Frontenacs, Brampton Battalion and Niagara IceDogs.

Zackory Ray – Zack is on the roster but has yet to play a game. He played with the Owen Sound Attack during the 2006-07 season.

Brendan Taylor – Brendan played two seasons in the OHL, 2006-07 and 2007-08, split between the Peterborough Petes, Belleville Bulls and Saginaw Spirit.

James Marsden – James played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2006-07 to 2009-10. He wore the jerseys of the Kingston Frontenacs, Plymouth Whalers and Guelph Storm.

Ryan Bellows – Ryan played with the Barrie Colts in 2006-07. Bellows is currently among the top twenty point getters in the OUA.

Jean-Michel Rizk – Rizk played five seasons in the OHL from 2002-03 to 2006-07. He played for the Saginaw Spirit, Kitchener Rangers and Mississauga IceDogs. Rizk was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the seventh round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, 195th overall.

Ben Skinner – Skinner played with the Kitchener Rangers during the 2008-09 season.

Kain Allicock – Kain played three years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2007-08 to 2009-10, split between the Saginaw Spirit and the Sudbury Wolves.

Kyle Van De Bospoort – Kyle played four seasons with the Barrie Colts from 2005-06 to 2008-09.

Garrett Sinfield – Garrett played four seasons with the Saginaw Spirit from 2004-05 to 2007-08.

Zack Shepley – Zack played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2007-08. Shepley played his first four seasons with the Plymouth Whalers and his final season with the Brampton Battalion.

Ryan Daniels – Ryan played five years between the pipes in the OHL from 2004-05 to 2008-09. His first four were played with the Saginaw Spirit and his last was with the Plymouth Whalers. Daniels was a fifth round pick of the Ottawa Senators in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, 121st overall.

Assistant Coach Jeff MacDougald played four seasons in the OHL from 2002-03 to 2005-06 with the Peterborough Petes and the Sarnia Sting. Head Coach Greg Puhalski played four seasons from 1982-83 to 1985-86 with the Kitchener Rangers and the London Knights.
