Ontario Hockey League grad James Livingston has started 2017-18 with EC Bad Nauheim in Germany’s tier 2 DEL2. In the first 15 games of the season, Livingston has scored three and assisted on ten for 13 points. The grad of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Plymouth Whalers is the lone OHL alumnus on the Bad Nauheim roster.
James Livingston played five years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2006-07 to 2010-11 with the Greyhounds and Whalers. He was the fifth overall pick at the 2006 OHL Priority Selection by Sault Ste. Marie. Coming ahead of him were Steven Stamkos (Sarnia Sting), Michael Del Zotto (Oshawa Generals), Alex Pietrangelo (Mississauga IceDogs) and Mitch Gaulton (Erie Otters).
Over his career, Livingston scored 82 goals and assisted on 91 for 173 points over 316 regular season games. In the playoffs, he added 13 points over 47 games. Starting his career with the Greyhounds, James was shipped to the Whalers at the 2009-10 OHL trade deadline, in exchange for Myles McCauley.
The St. Louis Blues selected Livingston in the third round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 70th overall. However, it was with the San Jose Sharks that he signed his entry level contract with on March 12, 2011. He spent most of his first three years of pro hockey in the American Hockey League with the Worcester Sharks and as of yet has not played in the NHL.
James has played pro hockey since 2011-12 in the AHL, ECHL, Austria’s Erste Bank Eishockey Liga and the DEL2. His past two years were spent in the EBEL with Dornbirner EC. This season, 2017-18, he is signed on with EC Bad Nauheim of the DEL2. As mentioned, James has put up 13 points on three goals and ten assists over the first 15 games.

Officially Eishockey Cracks Bad Nauheim GmbH, EC Bad Nauheim plays home games out of the Colonel-Knight-Stadion in Bad Nauheim, Germany, a 4,500 seat venue that opened in 1946. The team was returned to the DEL2 for the 2013-14 season after being crowned tier 3 Oberliga champions in 2012-13.
In 2016-17, the team finished eleventh in the 14 team league and had to fight off relegation. So far in 2017-18, the club is sitting tenth in the 14 team league, still struggling for a playoff position.
