2013-14 DEL2 Scoring Leader Harrison Reed Gets Promotion

harrison reed straubing tigers delOntario Hockey League grad Harrison Reed led Germany’s DEL2 in goals and points in 2013-14 and for his efforts has received a promotion and has signed with a DEL club for the 2014-15 season. The Straubing Tigers will need Reed’s offensive abilities if they’re to finally make a serious run at the DEL playoffs in the upcoming season. Already on the Straubing roster are four other OHL alumni.

Harrison Reed

Reed played four years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2004-05 to 2007-08 with the London Knights, Sarnia Sting and Guelph Storm. He was a third round pick by the Knights at the 2004 OHL Priority Selection, 47th overall. He saw six regular season and four playoff games with London in their 2004-05 championship season. Alongside Steven Stamkos with the Sarnia Sting in 2006-07, Reed led the team with 52 assists and was second behind Stamkos with 81 points.

The Carolina Hurricanes took Harrison in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, 93rd overall. He played pro in North American from 2008-09 to 2012-13 in the AHL, ECHL and CHL. In 2012-13, despite playnig just 46 regular season games, Reed led the Stockton thunder of the ECHL with 21 goals and 45 points. He then went on to lead the Thunder in the Kelly Cup playoffs with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points over 23 games. Stockton reached the finals before falling in five games to the Reading Royals.

2013-14 marked Reed’s first year in Europe and it was played exclusively with Eispiraten Crimmitschau of Germany’s DEL2 (formerly 2.Bundesliga). While playing the full 54 game schedule, Harrison led the league with 40 goals and 90 points. He was named the DEL2 Forward of the Year. This was achieved on a team that placed dead last in the 12 team league.

Straubing Tigers


The Tigers were promoted to the DEL for the 2006-07 season and have made the playoffs just once. In 2011-12, Straubing reached the semi-finals. In 2013-14, the team placed 12th in the 14 team DEL over the 52 game regular season schedule. currently, there are four OHL grads signed for the 2014-15 season.

Blaine Down – Signed through 2015-16, Down played three years with the Barrie Colts from 1999-00 to 2001-02. 2013-14 was Blaine’s second year with Straubing after several years playing in Switzerland.

Karl Stewart – Karl played three years in the OHL from 2000-01 to 2002-03, all with the Plymouth Whalers. Stewart has been with the Tigers since 2009-10 and is signed through 2014-15.

Peter Flache – Peter just finished his sixth year in the DEL and his first with Straubing. He played four years in the Ontario Hockey League from 1999-00 to 2002-03 with the Guelph Storm, North Bay Centennials and Saginaw Spirit. Flache is signed through 2014-15.

Jason Bacashihua – Jason has played net for the bulk of Straubing’s games over the past two years. He played one year in the OHL, 2001-02 with the Plymouth Whalers as a teammate of Karl Stewart’s.
