Cole Jarrett Finishes First Season With Graz In Austria
Filed under AustriaMay 1
Cole Jarrett provided the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League with solid defense for four seasons, from 1999-00 to 2002-03.Originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets 141st overall in the 2001 NHL draft, Jarrett has just one regular season NHL game under his belt, with the New York Islanders in 2005-06.
Cole’s jump to European hockey came at the start of the 2006-07 season. Eisbaren Berlin (Berlin Polar Bears) of Germany’s DEL was his first Euro team. 2007-08 would be split between Sweden and Finland and 2008-09 would be back to the DEL, this time with Nuremberg.
This season, Jarrett played for the Graz 99ers, a team that would finish 6th in the 10 team Erste Bank Eishockey Liga in Austria and would bow out in the first round of the playoffs.
Graz is the second largest city in Austria with a population of nearly 300,000. The city is located in the southeast of the country, near the borders with Slovenia and Hungary. The 99ers play out of Eisstadion Graz-Liebenau which seats just over 4,000 for hockey.
Cole Jarrett’s profile page on the Graz 99ers official website can be found here.
