Ontario Hockey League grad Chris Lawrence will start 2017-18 in the Elite Ice Hockey League with the Dundee Stars. Lawrence has been in the EIHL since 2014-15, mostly with the Nottingham Panthers. Chris played in the OHL with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Mississauga IceDogs and is the lone OHL alumnus on the Stars roster at the moment.
Chris Lawrence played four years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2006-07 with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Mississauga IceDogs. He was the sixth overall pick at the 2003 OHL Priority Selection by the Greyhounds, behind Patrick McNeill, Marc Staal, Tony Rizzi, Ryan O’Marra and Cody Bass.
Over his four years, Chris scored 88 goals an assisted on 117 for 205 points over 261 regular season games. In just 12 playoff games, he added ten points. His 47 goals in 2006-07 with the IceDogs tied him for fourth in the OHL with Brett MacLean and Justin Donati. Lawrence was traded midseason 2005-06 from the Greyhounds to Mississauga, Ontario and the IceDogs.
The Tampa Bay Lightning selected Lawrence in the third round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, 89th overall. Since 2007-08, Chris has played pro hockey in the AHL ,ECHL and EIHL. He had a tryout with EC Salzburg at the start of 2011-12 but was unsuccessful in getting a contract after playing eight pre-season tournament games with the team.
Chris has played in the EIHL since 2014-15, mostly with the Nottingham Panthers. He helped the team to a championship in 2015-16 after starting the season with the Coventry Blaze then Sheffield Steelers. This past season, 2016-17, with the Panthers, Lawrence scored 16 and assisted on 21 for 37 points in 41 regular season games.
The Dundee Stars were established in 2001-02 in the BNL. That year, they were regular season and playoff champions. The Stars have been in the tier 1 Elite Ice Hockey League since 2010-11. This past season, 2016-17, was their best post season since joining the league, reaching the semi-final. In 2013-14, the team finished third overall in the ten team league, their top finish to date. Home games are played at the Dundee Ice Arena in Dundee, Scotland, a 2,300 seat venue that opened in 2000.
