The York Lions finished last in the OUA’s nine team Western Conference for the 2010-11 season. The team carried seven players with Ontario Hockey League experience.
Cassidy Preston – Cassidy played three seasons with the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors from 2004-05 to 2006-07.MacKenzie Micks – For three seasons, from 2006-07 to 2008-09, MacKenzie played 15 OHL games, four with the Peterborough Petes and eleven with the Barrie Colts.
Jaskirat Gill – J.K. played three seasons with the Sudbury Wolves from 2006-07 to 2008-09.
Jesse Messier – Jesse played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2005-06 to 2008-09 with the Sudbury Wolves and Toronto/Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.
Matt Thomson – Matt played seventeen games with the Kitchener Rangers during the 2005-06 season.
Ben Alavie – Ben played three seasons with the Brampton Battalion from 2007-08 to 2009-10.
Kyle Lamb – Kyle played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2006-07 with the Sudbury Wolves, Owen Sound Attack and Mississauga IceDogs.

The University of Windsor Lancers played the 2010-11 OUA season with fifteen players with Ontario Hockey League experience. Windsor finished tied for seventh in the nine team Western Conference with the UOIT Ridgebacks. However, based on goals for, the Ridgebacks were awarded seventh.
Brett Oliphant – Brett played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2004-05 to 2007-08 with the Barrie Colts, Mississauga IceDogs and Sarnia Sting.Jonathan Sciacca – Jonathan played four seasons in the OHL from 2004-05 to 2007-08 with the Windsor Spitfires, Kingston Frontenacs and Oshawa Generals.
Tom Craig – Tom played two seasons with the Saginaw Spirit, 2005-06 and 2006-07.
Kyle Tront – Kyle played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2005-06 to 2008-09 with the Sarnia Sting, Belleville Bulls and Saginaw Spirit.
Mike Lombardi – Mike played five seasons in the OHL from 2003-04 to 2007-08 with the Plymouth Whalers, Belleville Bulls and Barrie Colts.
Mark Thorburn – Mark played four games with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds during the 2004-05 season.
Anthony Tapper - Anthony played four seasons with the Toronto / Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors from 2005-06 to 2008-09.
Danny Anger – Danny played two seasons with the Sarnia Sting, 2005-06 and 2006-07.
Dan Lombardi – Dan played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2005-06 to 2009-10 with the Sarnia Sting and Sudbury Wolves.
Scott Todd – Scott played four seasons in the OHL from 2003-04 to 2006-07 with the Oshawa Generals and Windsor Spitfires.
Christian Steingraber – Christian played three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2006-07 to 2008-09 with the Sarnia Sting and Plymouth Whalers.
Ryan Crouch – Ryan played four seasons with the Sudbury Wolves from 2004-05 to 2007-08.
Matt McCready – Matt played four seasons in the OHL from 2004-05 to 2007-08 with the London Knights, Sarnia Sting and Toronto / Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.
Steve Ferry – Steve played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2004-05 to 2008-09 with the London Knights and Sarnia Sting.
Josh Bemis – Josh played three seasons with the Plymouth Whalers from 2007-08 to 2009-10.

Back To School Mondays: University of Western Ontario Mustangs

The University of Western Mustangs finished atop the Western Conference for the OUA 2010-11 regular season. Western lost to McGill in the Queen’s Cup final and was recently ousted in the semi-finals of the University Cup. Western was heavy on Ontario Hockey League grads this season with thirteen on the roster.
Kevin Baker – Kevin played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2007-08. Baker played with the Owen Sound Attack, Sudbury Wolves and Oshawa Generals.Steve Reese – Steve played four seasons in the OHL from 2006-07 to 2009-10 with the Sarnia Sting and Sudbury Wolves.
Josh McQuade – Josh played just one game in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes during the 2007-08 season.
Julian Cimadamore – Julian played four seasons in the OHL from 2006-07 to 2009-10 with the Ottawa 67′s and Kitchener Rangers.
Aaron Snow – Aaron played four seasons in the OHL from 2004-05 to 2007-08 and played for more teams than years. Snow spent time with the Brampton Battalion, Belleville Bulls, Windsor Spitfires, Niagara IceDogs and Sarnia Sting.
Keaton Turkiewicz – Keaton played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2004-05 to 2007-08. Turkiewicz played with the Sudbury Wolves, Windsor Spitfires and Belleville Bulls.
Scott Aarssen – Scott, a London born player, played four seasons with the London Knights from 2005-06 to 2008-09 and has just completed his second season with the hometown Mustangs.
Adam Nemeth – Adam played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2002-03 to 2006-07 with the London Knights and Kingston Frontenacs.
Geoff Killing – Geoff played five seasons with the Belleville Bulls from 2003-04 to 2007-08.
Brandon Greenside – Brandon played two seasons in the OHL, 2007-08 and 2008-09. Greenside wore the jerseys of the Guelph Storm, Sudbury Wolves and London Knights.
Matt Paltridge – Matt played parts of two seasons, 2006-07 and 2007-08, with the Windsor Spitfires.
Josh Unice – Josh played between the pipes for three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2007-08 to 2009-10. Unice played for the Kitchener Rangers and Windsor Spitfires.
Anthony Grieco – Anthony played goal for the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors during the 2007-08 season.

The University of Waterloo Warriors finished out the 2010-11 season in sixth place in the nine team West Conference. Included on Waterloo’s roster this season were four Ontario Hockey League grads.
Aaron Lewicki – Aaron played in the Ontario Hockey League for four seasons from 2002-03 to 2004-05. Lewicki got to experience life around the province, playing for the Kingston Frontenacs, Belleville Bulls, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Barrie Colts.Colin Carwardine – Colin played parts of two seasons with the Windsor Spitfires, 2005-06 and 2006-07.
Kyle Sonnenburg – Kyle played five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2006-07, with the Belleville Bulls and Brampton Battalion.
Steve Whitely – Steve used the moving truck more than Aaron Lewicki. Whitely played for five different teams over four OHL season, 2004-05 to 2007-08. Steve appeared in the jerseys of the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors, Saginaw Spirit, Belleville Bulls, Plymouth Whalers and Sarnia Sting.

You would think a team like the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks of the OUA with it’s 16 players with Ontario Hockey League experience would be quite strong. The Ridgebacks finished seventh in the nine team Western Conference.Here are those 16 players:
Jeremy Whalen – Jeremy played 20 games over three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2005-06. Whalen played for the Mississauga IceDogs and the Barrie Colts.
Michael Montgomery – Michael played two seasons with the Peterborough Petes, 2004-05 and 2005-06.
Nathan Spaling – Nathan played with the Guelph Storm during the 2003-04 season.
Scott Baker – Scott played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2006-07 with the Oshawa Generals, Belleville Bulls and the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors.
Josh Vatri – Josh played three seasons in the OHL from 2005-06 to 2007-08 with the Erie Otters and Kingston Frontenacs.
Derrick Bagshaw – Derrick played seven seasons with the Erie Otters from 2003-04 to 2006-07.
Derek Gregorack – Derek played during the 2008-09 season with the Peterborough Petes and the Brampton Battalion.
Tony Rizzi – Tony played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2006-07. Rizzi played with the Kingston Frontenacs and Peterborough Petes.
Luke VanMoerkerke – Luke played three season in the OHL from 2006-07 to 2008-09 with the London Knights and the Brampton Battalion.
Mike Noyes – Mike played two seasons with the London Knights, 2005-06 and 2006-07.
Jeff Barletta – Jeff played three seasons with the Toronto / Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors from 2005-06 to 2007-08.
Shawn Connors – Shawn played two seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs, 2004-05 and 2005-06.
Steve Spade – Steve played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 2003-04 to 2006-07. Spade played with the Barrie Colts, Belleville Bulls and Toronto St. Michael’s Majors.
Chris Purves – Chris played two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, 2005-06 and 2006-07, with the Windsor Spitfires and Barrie Colts.
Jason Guy – Jason played four seasons in the OHL from 2005-06 to 2008-09. Guy played with the Guelph Storm, Kingston Frontenacs and London Knights.
Jeff Dawson – Jeff played briefly with the Erie Otters during the 2006-07 season.
