I would not want to be an opposing goalie in Denmark when playing the Odense Bulldogs in 2017-18. OHL grad Dale Mitchell has led the Metal Ligaen in scoring the past two seasons and will return to the club for another campaign. Add to that recently acquired Anthony Camara and that’s a lot of offensive punch. Camara was a 36 goal scorer with the Barrie Colts in 2012-13 while playing in just 50 games. The member of the 2013 Team Canada WJC squad has signed for Odense for the 2017-18 season.
Anthony Camara played four years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2009-10 to 2012-13 with the Saginaw Spirit and Barrie Colts. He was the 14th overall pick by the Spirit at the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. A January 2, 2012 trade sent him to the Colts with Ryan O’Connor for Eric Locke, Clint Windsor and three draft picks.
Over his four years, Camara scored 66 and assisted on 56 for 122 points in 245 regular season games. He added 24 points in 47 playoff games. In his final season, 2012-13, Anthony scored 36 and assisted on 24 for 60 points over just 50 games. Projected over a 68 game schedule, that would have been 49 goals and 33 assists for 82 points. He was named a Third Team OHL All-Star and played for Canada at the 2013 IIHF World Juniors. Camara helped Barrie reach the finals before losing in game seven to the London Knights.
The Boston Bruins selected Camara in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, 81st overall. Since 2013-14, he has played pro hockey in the AHL and ECHL. In 2016-17, he appeared in 25 ECHL games with the Kalamazoo Wings, along with 23 regular season and three Calder Cup playoff games in the American Hockey League with the St. John’s IceCaps.
Anthony Camara has signed for just the 2017-18 hockey season with the Odense Bulldogs in Denmark’s Metal Ligaen.
Since being promoted to the Metal Ligaen for the 1991-92 season, the Odense Bulldogs have not won a championship but have been to the finals three times. In 2016-17, the team finished second in the ten team league and lost in the bronze medal game. The league increases to eleven teams for 2017-18. Home games are played at the Bryggeriet Vestfyen Arena in Odense, Denmark, a 3,280 seat venue that opened in 1999.
Dale Mitchell will start 2017-18 with the Bulldogs. He has been with the club since 2014-15. Mitchell played five years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2005-06 to 2009-10 with the Oshawa Generals and Windsor Spitfires. Dale led the Metal Ligaen in points in both 2015-16 and 2016-17.
