15 from 2008-09 Windsor Spitfires Memorial Cup Champions Played Pro in 2011-12

windsor spitfires ontario hockey league logo2008-09 was a historic year for the Windsor Spitfires as the Ontario Hockey League team won their second Robertson Cup since joining the league in 1975 and becoming Memorial Cup champions for the first time ever.

The Spitfires finished first overall with 115 points. Taylor Hall and Ryan Ellis finished sixth and seventh in the race for the Eddie Powers Trophy. Andrew Engelage had the third best goals against average in the OHL at 2.35. Ryan Ellis won the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the top defenseman and Taylor Hall won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as the MVP in the playoffs.

In the run to the Robertson Cup finals, Windsor swept the Owen Sound Attack in the opening round. In the West Conference semi-finals, the Spitfires took out the Plymouth Whalers in six. The London Knights fell in five games in the conference finals and the Brampton Battalion lost out in the same number of games in the final series.

The Memorial Cup was held in Rimouski, Quebec and hosted by the Rimouski Oceanic. Windsor finished the round robin with a 1-2 record. After beating the host team in a tie breaker, the Spitfires beat the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the semi-final before beating the Kelowna Rockets in the final to be crowned champions.

Fifteen players that played in the playoffs for the Spitfires in 2008-09 were actively playing professional hockey in 2011-12.
